Basic information
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium roller or cone inserted into the jawbone that replaces the root of the tooth and carries the crown or bridge. In shape and function, it mimics a natural tooth.
One implant usually carries a single crown, two implants can carry three to four teeth via a bridge. As a rule, the healing process lasts 4-6 months and depends on the quality of the bone.
The course of examination and treatment
Initial visit to the dental office
We will first meet anyone interested in implant placement at our workplace. The initial consultation includes a careful examination of the teeth, gums
and especially the areas where implants should be inserted. An X-ray examination is absolutely necessary.
We will establish a treatment plan for the patient, including price and time calculation. We strive to make the treatment design sufficiently understandable and the benefits and difficulties of the proposed treatment are clear.
Arrangement of the date of the operation
The date for the operation (implant insertion) is agreed either on the same day or the patient will think through the entire treatment plan in peace at home and make an appointment later.
Operation performance
The introduction of one implant takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
For patients who have a great fear or fear of surgery, we offer the option of analgosedation during surgery, which significantly attenuates the feeling of fear
and concerns about surgical performance. Antibiotics are administered according to the individual needs of the patient
and power range. If absolutely necessary, we are also able to issue incapacity for work.
Postoperative care
After more demanding procedures, we check patients on the second to third day after the procedure. After 7 to 14 days from the operation, we remove the stitches. The third check-up usually follows the third to fourth week after surgery. For the next 12 weeks, implant healing takes place.
After this time, the implant is already firmly connected to the surrounding bone. Next, we remove the mucous membrane above the implant and screw the healing roller to it, which can already be seen in the oral cavity.
Imprint of the implant
Before imprinting, it is necessary to remove the mucous membrane above the implant, optionally perform soft tissue plasty. Especially in the front of the upper jaw, we often modify the shape of the mucous membrane and gums to achieve the natural appearance of the crown
and its surroundings.
After exposing the implant, within two to three weeks, the mucous membrane around the neck heals sufficiently and the implant can be imprinted. Then we screw the prosthetic pillar (abutment) into the implant together with the crown or bridge.
Making a crown or bridge
It takes about 1 to 2 weeks to make a crown or bridge, and two to three visits to the laboratory or doctor are required.
For larger bridges, such as toothless jaws, more visits are needed and it takes longer to make a final prosthetic replacement.

Success rate of dental implant insertion
In very rare cases, implant failure occurs, namely one in a hundred cases. Implant guarantees its patients a one-year warranty for implant healing.
Checking the implantation of the dental implant is carried out after the time necessary for its acceptance of the bone has elapsed, as a rule, it is a period of 4-6 months. To confirm the acceptance of the implant by the bone bed, we perform a test using the method of resonant frequency analysis based on the principle of non-contact electromagnetic shock wave using Osstell iDx. After confirmation of the embedding, an imprint and making a crown or bridge are made.

Once the implant has healed successfully, it is very unlikely to fail, but it is important to care for it regularly and for a long time.
Hygiene
Brush your teeth regularly with a soft toothbrush, interdental brushes and superfloss.

To preserve the long-term stability of the result, it is important not to smoke completely.

Adjustment of the missing bone
Use of the patient's own bones
In advanced periodontitis or after injuries, the missing bone can be replenished with its own bone tissue, most often from the back of the lower jaw. Removal is safe and bone usually grows to 70% of its original volume.
The transferred bone is fixed in the area of the defect with titanium screws and supplemented with a bone substitute. After about half a year, the screws are removed and a self-implant is introduced.
